Artifact E: Lesson Analysis
The lesson analysis was a great way for me to see how not every science lesson is as effective as it could be. Towards the beginning of the semester, we had to take a “simple” lesson and evaluate it. I chose the activity from the Science Olympics because it could be “easily and cheaply modified” according to Shiland’s suggestions in Decookbook It!. I first had to analyze the science content in the lesson and see if it was being taught effectively. After looking at the content, I determined what process skills were being used, if any. I then moved on to seeing if the lesson included any aspects from the NOS. After analyzing the lesson, I had to make modifications that will make the lesson more effective. This lesson analysis showed me how a majority of science lessons can be modified to make sure students are truly learning science.

Artifact F: Curriculum Map
The curriculum map is the basis for every lesson. To determine what topic I want or need to teach, I look to the curriculum map. I have always known about the curriculum map but I never understood how a teacher should use it. The map is a great way to see what your students need to know by the end of the year. It also provides you with resources and a few lessons. I will use the resources but I always analyze the lessons before I may use them.
