Hello there! My name is Brittani Griffin and I am currently a senior at the University of South Florida. Before I get to telling you about where I am now, let me show you how I got here.
I have lived in Tampa since the age of two and I have grown up within a two-mile radius. I attended the elementary school that my mother worked at and then she followed me to middle school. I went through high school and in the beginning of my senior year was asked what I wanted to do as my career. At that point I was set on becoming a computer engineer. I applied to USF and marked down engineering as my major. I received my acceptance letter in the mail a few months later with an extra letter saying I was accepted into the College of Engineering. I was super excited to finish my senior year so I could start at USF.
Once I had my orientation for USF and the College of Engineering, I decided that engineering wasn't for me. I loved math but I wanted to work with people, or children. That is when I made my choice to become a teacher! Of course I had to complete all my general education classes but I just couldn't wait to apply to the College of Education. The end of my Sophomore year arrived and I applied for the COE. I was accepted and attended orientation where I heard about the Residency Program. At first I was hesitant about applying to the Residency program but after thinking about it for a couple days, I applied. I was accepted and told to show up here, at this time.
The first day of school arrived and I was beyond nervous! I didn't know anyone who applied to the program and I had no idea what to expect. We were told to be at the classroom by 7:30 in the morning, so of course I tried to be there by 7:15. I remember walking into the classroom with a couple other people who I didn't know and sitting in one of the middle desks. The desks were in rows spread evenly across the classroom. We all sat there without talking just waiting for our professor to get there. I was shocked when I saw her walk in and the first thing out of her mouth was, "No, no, no. We need to move these desks into one big circle. I hate rows!" I was super confused. What teacher had her class sit in one big circle?
My first semester in the UTRPP (Urban Teacher Residency Partnership Program) was different than what I was expecting.
More to come........
